3rd Quarter, 89 new companies

Over the course of the third quarter of 2020, 89 new companies have registered on the companies register for the region.  This figure is up from the previous quarter, and this despite the dip that we are used to seeing during the summer period and the singular sitution of 2020.  Nevertheless, the number of new registrations is slightly down on the same period in 2019 (Q3 2019 : 104 new businesses).

Just like in our analysis of the second quarter of 2020, the overall result taking ito account new registrations/arrivals versus departures/bankruptcies/cessation over the summer quarter strikes a positive note.  Working out at +37 companies, this indicator seems to confirm that the entrepreneurial dynamic is still thriving.

In the current context, it is still worth remembering that the commercial register is liable to a timing bias since newly created companies appear on it from the point of registration, independently of the actual starting date of their activity, whereas those facing difficulties leading to a potential cessation of activities can experience a long wait before this situation is recorded in the register.

The positive figures noted at the present time are most encouraging, indicating vitality in the future, but must not therefore mask the real and immediate difficulties which many stakeholders are already facing.

We will be paying particular attention to the results of the next quarters and to the impact in the longer term of the current crisis, both on the creation of new activities and on the business activity of existing companies.

Promove will provide a further update at the start of January 2021.
