The Lavaux Express receives a 65 000 CHF non-repayablegrant under LADE

On 08 May the Service for the Promotion of the Economy and Innovation (SPEI) granted funding worth CHF 65 000 to the Lavaux Express Association, following  positive notice given by Promove.  Our association worked closely with the project leader throughout this whole process.  This non-repayable grant represents 33% of the total costs of the the project to replace a locomotive of the tourist train. For 16 years the Lavaux Express Association and its volunteers from the region have been fulfilling the mission they set themselves :  to open up the steep hillsides of the the Lvaux vineyards thanks to a form of transport which is respectful of the vines and their workers : little tourist trains.  Since its creation, it has been hugely successful, and has led to a constant rise of seasonal passenger numbers, today reaching 25 000 visitors per year.

Over the course of these visits and journeys through the hillsides between Lutry and Bourg-en-Lavaux, the first locomotives are reaching the end of their working lives and can no longer guarantee the levels of safety required when running.  In purchasing a new locomotive, the Association wishes to maintain growth, in complete safety, and thus continue to help visitors from all over the world to discover Lavaux and its vineyards.  Maintaining a sufficient number of trains is all the more important in the current circumstances, as it is likely that the capacity of the trains will have to be adapted in order to provide a journey which meets the health standards relating to COVID-19.

With this new investment, it is not only a unique experience which is being maintained, but in this way a link in the tourism value chain is perpetuated.  The Lavaux Express in fact contributes to the regional tourist offer.  Through the journeys offered to visitors, it is Lavaux and all of its stakeholders (winegrowers, restauranteurs, hoteliers…) who thrive and benefit from the presence of guests.
